Picture of the month

THE CONSERVATORY OF FLOWERS

HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH WHEN BACKGROUNDS ARE BRIGHT AND WHITE

It is a little late in the month to change, the picture of the month, but hey… better late than never.

Last Sunday we did a little excursion to the Conservatory of Flowers at Golden Gate Park. Here are some photos from that day.

They were all taken with a positive exposure compensation, because the background was always white (look at the photo of the building at the blog post with more photos), so that I guess is the theme of the month — go plus!

With my 100 macro at f4, I focused the lily but made sure to have the couple kissing in the background sharp enough that one can understand what it is. My exposure compensation was +1/3, and that made the little flowers in the bottom overexposed, but the mode of the glory moment of the kiss is accentuated by that.

The photograph above is my favorite from the batch, but here are other examples of positive exposure compensation.

f1.8 with 28mm lens at a +1and1/3 compensation.
100 macro lens at f2.8 and +1 exposure compensation.
