March 2012 Client's Photographs

These are images from very talented people that traveled or studied photography with me. I was honored to have such a great gallery in my website during the month of March.
April is here and I am showing new images on the Learn section from other students. Go check them out!

PHOTOGRAPH BY LEON ROLAND - At the San Diego Safari Park. They are the only place in the United States that are allowed to run their Cheetah. They release the Cheetah to chase toy down a 100 yard path. Since the Cheetah can reach speeds of 70 MPH the trick is to get a picture of the Cheetah as it comes at you at high speed. I used the high speed shutter and selected the picture that I liked.

PHOTOGRAPH BY HOWIE SILVER - Seven Buddhist monks at the ancient Angkor Wat Temple in Siem Riep, Cambodia. One of them was taking my picture as I was taking theirs. Well, more likely, he was photographing the Temple behind me. (October 2007)

PHOTOGRAPH BY HOWIE SILVER - Taken on the floor of Canyon De Chelly, Arizona. (March 2008)

PHOTOGRAPHY BY PEGGY POGGIO - Potala Palace Painters (10/26/2011) On our last full day in Lhasa, Tibet, our group had finally received permission to visit Potala Palace, which was the chief residence of the Dalai Lama until the 14th Dalai Lama fled to Dharamsala, India, during a rebellion in 1959. It is one of the sacred destinations for the many pilgrims who flock to Lhasa each year . As UNESCO World Heritage site (since 1994), it is now a museum and in addition to the pilgrims who visit, about 1,000 non-pilgrim visitors are allowed each day (more during the extended summer hours). As we ascended the steps for our tour of the palace, this pair of painters seemed to suddenly appear in front of us. They provided an earthly grounding to the otherwise highly spiritual experience.

SOME TECHNICAL INFORMATION: Camera – Canon EOS 60D; Focal Length – 90 mm; ISO – 200; Exposure – 1/1600 sec at f/5.6; Exposure Bias – -1/3 EV.

PHOTOGRAPHY BY PEGGY POGGIO - Tibetan Nomad Child (10/25/2011) This captivating child was one of several we saw during a visit our group made to a small nomad village, Lota, about two hours north of Lhasa, Tibet. He is looking at a bag of candy, one of the small gifts we brought to the villagers. The children are not used to packaged candy and during our visit, this child put a wrapped candy in his mouth, not having the experience to know the wrapper needed to be removed. The children in the village were shy, but accepted our visit well with the help and encouragement of the adult villagers and our local guide, Sah Jun, who is barely visible in the left portion of the frame. The village adults were very welcoming. We toured two of the homes and in one of the homes, we were all served yak butter tea. The nomads in this part of Tibet (closer to larger towns like Lhasa), have small communities with homes they use during the winter. In the summer, they all usually follow their herds, living in tents, as they search for and utilize good grazing grounds. Nomads in more remote parts of Tibet typically live in tents year round.

SOME TECHNICAL INFORMATION:  Camera – Canon EOS 60D; Focal Length – 145  mm; ISO – 1250; Exposure – 1/60 sec at f/5.6; Exposure Bias – -1/3 EV
