CORCOVADO

2011 started with the right foot.
I should have posted this photos long ago, but I guess, better late than never!
After years of wanting to get to Corcovado, I had the opportunity to spent one week there at the end of January.
As crazy as we are, we went for the whole deal! We hiked in trough Los Patos trail (ended up being 25K hike because of a small mistake) and hike out via Carate. Of course, I had to take all of my photo gear and more, plus some cloths and sleeping stuff, and some food, and many other things that felt like a giant hippopotamus on my back. But it was all worth it… although, my next visit to Corcovado, I’m taking the boat in and out!
The only thing that was a bit sad is that Tapirs decided to hide from us. Everybody saw them but us… I guess they want to make sure that I come back!
One of the many great things that happen is that I got to see many Tamandua, the anteater, for the first time, and I discover a very special kid of bats:
Here you will see my favorite photos of our trip. I got to say that they are not award winning photographs, like my friend Greg Basco likes to call them, but they are close to my heart. I will go back to get those award winning once, one of this days!

2011 comenzó con el pie derecho.
Debí de postear estas fotos hace rato, pero supongo que es mejor tarde que nunca!
Después de años de querer ir a Corcovado, tuve la oportunidad de pasar una semana entera a finales de Enero.
Así de locos que somos, decidimos hacer todo el combo! Entramos caminando por el sendero Los Patos (que resultó ser una caminata de 25Km por un pequeño error cometido) y salimos por el sendero Carate. Claro, tuve que llevar todo mi equipo fotográfico y más, algo de ropa, cosas para dormir, algo de comida y muchas otras cosas que al final se sentían como un hipopótamo en mi espalda. Pero valió la pena…. aunque, mi próxima visita a Corcovado, voy a tomar el bote de ida y vuelta!
La única cosa triste que nos pasó es que todas las Dantas decidieron esconderse de nosotros. Todo mundo las vió menos nosotros… Supongo que quieren asegurarse de que volveremos!
Una de las muchas cosas buenas del viaje es que pude ver muchas Tamandua, el oso hormiguero, por primera vez, y descubrí un tipo de murciélago muy especial:
Aquí van a ver mis fotos favoritas del viaje. Debo confesar que no son fotos ganadoras de premio, como les dice mi amigo Greg Basco, pero a mi me gustan mucho. Algún día volveré a sacar las de premio!

I have never seen so many Hermit Crabs in my life, and so big! I had a lot of fun photographing this guys. Small depth of field made the difference (telephoto lens, big aperture, as close as the focus let me). / Nunca he visto tantos Caricacos en mi vida, y tan grandes! Me divertí mucho fotografiando a estas criaturas. Poca profundidad de campo es lo que hace la diferencia (teleobjetivo, apertura grande, tan cerca como fue posible enfocar).

También vimos muchas gallinas de monte. / We also saw many Tinamous.

This was the introduction to the Tamanduas. / Esta fue el primer encuentro con la Tamandua.

Y justo después de ver el oso hormiguero vimos una garza tigre. / Faciated Tiger Heron, the next find after the anteater.

And then, another one of this guys! How fun they are! / Y luego otra de estos criaturas! Tan divertido!

Did not get a nice portrait of the spider monkeys, but I did get one in action! As you can see, no time to fix my exposure compensation. / No logré un buen retrato de un mono araña, pero si agarré uno en acción. Como pueden ver, no hubo tiempo de arreglar mi compensación de la exposición.

Well, my good friend Yehudi said: too bad you have that branch... well, he is right... but I still like it... what do you think? / Bueno, mi buen amigo Yehudi dijo: lástima la rama... bueno, tiene razón... pero aún así me gusta... qué piensan ustedes?

This was an amazing found (thank you Tom!). We spent a good amount of time around this Jacamar, to the point were I was too close to focus! / Este fue un descubrimiento buenísimo (gracias Tom!). Nos pasamos un buen rato fotografiandolo, al punto que estaba demasiado cerca para enfocar!

Yo sé que está demasiado centrada, pero será que las ramas ayudan? qué piensan? / I know it is death centered, but could it be that the branches help?

Por todo lado vimos de estos carpinteros. Esta es una de las mejores fotos. Lástima la rama, diría Yehudi. / We saw this woodpeckers everywhere. This is one fo the best shoot I got. Too bad the branch, would Yehudi say.

A Crested Guan. Also a branch here... / Un pavón. También una rama que molesta...

This is my favorite find, and Im really proud of me, because I found it! Disk Bats! / Este es mi descubrimiento favorito, y estoy my orgullosa de mi porque yo lo encontré! Murciélagos de Ventosas!
