Last Sunset – El último atardecer
With nostalgia I show you this photo, the last sunset I saw in Galapagos Islands. At Santa Cruz island. / Con nostalgia les enseño esta foto, el último atardecer que vi en las islas Galápagos. En la isla de Santa Cruz.
En la mañana de este día visitamos la isla de Bartolomé. Unos días antes había visto fotos de este lugar, y tenía muchas ganas de subir el sendero. Resultó ser bastante sencillo: un camino con plataforma de madera muy cómoda, escaleras, baranda.
El paisaje de esta isla debe ser el paraíso de un Vulcanólogo. Las formaciones rocosas muestran claramente lo que fue la actividad volcánica, y la vegetación que comienza a poblar la isla habla de lo fuerte que es el tiempo acompañado de la naturaleza: todo lo pueden cambiar.
Nuestro fabuloso guía, Jaime, nos dio una explicación muy buena de cómo se formó el archipiélagos de Galápagos, utilizando rocas de la misma isla, muy apropiado! Por supuesto que yo ya no recuerdo nada, pero puedo asegurarles que en su momento fue muy interesante. Además, Jaime hizo algo que todos le agradecimos mucho, nos llevó a la isla apenas había amanecido, permitiéndonos hacer la caminata cuesta arriba con un clima fresco y una luz preciosa. ¡Gracias Jaime! no hubo un momento del viaje en que no atinaras con tus decisiones!

The first place we visited this day was the Bartolomé Island. A few days before I had seen some photos of this place, and I had a lot of expectations about it, I was not disappointed. It turned out to be pretty simple to get to the top: a wood platform on the trail, stairs, a handrail.
The landscape of this island is probably what a Vulcanologist will call heaven. The formations on the rocks show very clearly the volcanic activity, and the vegetation that start to populate the island talks about how strong time is when it joins forces with nature: they can change it all.
Our fabulous guide, Jaime, told us a great explanation bout how the Galapagos archipelago was formed, using rocks from the island, very appropriate! But of course, I do not remember anything, but I can assure you it was very interesting. Also, Jaime did something that we appreciated a lot, he took us to the island right after sunrise, so we did the walk with nicer temperatures and beautiful light. Thank you Jaime! there was not a single moment where your decisions where not the best ones!
This is probably the most amazing landscape I got to see in Galapagos, it was like been on another world. / Este es uno de los paisajes más hermosos que pude ver en Galápagos, era como estar en otro mundo.

Estas dos imágenes son una construcción a partir de cuatro y tres fotografías, respectivamente, para obtener una panorámica sin cortar una imagen de proporción estándar. Esta técnica me gusta mucho porque las fotografías resultantes tienen mucho detalle.
This two images are a construction from four and three photographs, respectively, to obtain one big panoramic picture without cropping a single image with the standard proportions. I like this technique very much because the photographs that come out of it have a lot of details.

This place looked like it once had a big bubble-ling mud that got frozen. / Este lugar parecía como un montón de lodo burbujeante que se congeló.
The cuts, the rocks, the colors, very impressive. / Los colores, las rocas, los cortes, muy impresionante.

Around this island I got to do the best snorkeling, not only because it was my fifth try, but also because there were amazing things around us. I was a great way of ending the adventure. / En los alrededores de esta isla hice el mejor snorkeling de todo el viaje, no sólo porque era mi quinto intento, sino también porque habían demasiadas cosas maravillosas a nuestro alrededor. Fue una forma genial de terminar la aventura!
The snorkeling in Bartolome was the best ever! I finally got to enjoy it because I was feeling very secure. I got to dive a little bit, a was swimming a lot, and I got to see amazing things: white tipped reef sharks, penguins, too many starfish (if that is ever possible), see lions, many many fish of many many different colors.
In the afternoon, we sailed to Santa Cruz Island again, to visit the mangrove swamp where there were many Pacific Green Turtles and small sharks, and lots of birds. But the most impressive moment of these dinghy ride was the sunset, nature telling us good bye with amazing light and colors.

El snorkeling en Bartolomé fue el mejor de todos! Finalmente logré disfrutarlo porque me sentía muy segura. Pude sumergirme un poco y nadé un montón, pero lo mejor fue que pude ver cosas impresionantes: tiburones, pingüinos, demasiadas estrellas de mar (si es que eso es posible), lobos de mar, y muchísimos peces de muchísimos colores distintos.
En la tarde navegamos de nuevo a la Isla de Santa Cruz, para visitar el Mnglar Caleta Tortuga Negra, donde habían muchas tortugas negras y tiburones pequeños y muchos pájaros. Pero lo más impresionante de este viaje en bote fue el atardecer, la naturaleza diciéndonos adios con una luz y muchos colores maravillosos.

A blue footed booby in the water, we saw it fishing and eating and flying, I got only bad photos of all of that... sorry. / Un piquero de patas azules, lo vimos nadando, pezcando, volando, y sólo tengo fotos malas de todo eso... lo siento.

Striated Lava Heron. This was a very difficult picture to take: it was dark, we were on a boat and the heron had a lot of branches and distracting things around it, very hard to compose. So I decided to use little depth of field, but sadly, because of that, non of my photos have the bird's eye as crisp as I wish for it. / Garza de Lava Estriada. Esta foto fue bien difícil de tomar: ya estaba oscuro, estabamos en un bote y la garza tenía muchas ramas y distracciones alrededor, muy difícil de componer. Entonces decidí usar poca profundidad de campo, pero tristemente, debido a ésto, ninguna de mis fotos tiene la nitidez en el ojo del pájaro que you desearía.
