July, part 1. Julio, 1ra parte.
Curtis took the hummingbird photography to an extreme! He became the feeder! / Curtis llevó la fotografía de colibrís al extremo! Se convirtió en el comedero.
Past July I had a great time traveling with two groups of – now – Road Scholar Intergenerational groups. It was a lot of fun, specially because the kids where awesome, very much into photography, and the grandparents even better. We had many chances to great photography and we also got to have fun!
Here are my favorite photos from the first trip in July.

En Julio pasado tuve la oportunidad de viajar con dos grupos Intergeneracionales de – ahora – Road Scholar. Fue muy divertido, especialmente porque los chicos fueron asombrosos, muy metidos en la fotografía, y los abuelos aún mejores. Tuvimos muchas oportunidades de fotografiar y además nos divertimos mucho!

There is something about new fern leaves and blurry backgrounds... / Hay algo con las hojas nuevas de los helechos y los fondos borrosos...
At Sarapiquí river boat ride. I must confess, I had to borrow Yehudi's 300mm f2.8 to get this photo... I miss the 1.6 conversion of not full framed cameras. / En el rió Sarapiquí durante un tour en bote... debo confesar que para lograr esta foto tuve que pedirle a Yehudi prestado su 300mm f2.8. Extraño la conversión 1.6 de las cámaras que no son de sensor 35mm.
Howler monkeys at Selva Verde Lodge, right at the front desk! / Monos Congo en Selva Verde Lodge, justo en la recepción!
One morning we had a very productive macro session. I specially like this photograph of a caterpillar. / Una mañana tuvimos una sesión de fotografía macro muy productiva. Personalmente me encanta esta foto de la oruga.

This was an unexpected surprise. / Esta fue una sorpresa inesperada.
Most of this photograph was black&white already, so I just got ride of the brown in the sloth. I can't believe how much we have destroyed their habitat. / La mayoría de esta foto ya era blanco y negro, entonces sólo me deshice del color en el perezoso. Es increíble lo mucho que hemos destruido su hábitat.
Early morning at San Gerardo de Dota. Dewdrops. The hard part about this photo was to have enough of the grass looking sharp but not a lot of the background. / Temprano en la mañana en San Gerardo de Dota. Gotas de rocío. Lo difícil de esta foto fue tener suficiente de la hierba nítida pero no así del fondo.
Curtis also help on this one. I had to do a bit of fixing of the background, so all of it was green. / Curtis también me ayudó con esta foto. Tuve que arreglar un poco el fondo, para que todo fuera verde.
I have photograph the Savegre river from exactly this point too many times. But this morning, when I saw the grass hanging from the electric cables, I had a moment of joy, finally a different shot from here. / He fotografiado el río Savegre desde este punto muchísimas veces. Pero esta mañana, cuando vi la hierba cayendo de cables eléctricos, me alegré, finalmente algo diferente en esta toma.
En la entrada del Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio. Raras veces hago esto de hacer mis fotos monocromas, pero en este caso el color sale sobrando. / At the entrance of Manuel Antonio National Park. Rarely I turn my pictures to a monochrome style, but this time the color was unnecessary.
At Tarcoles river, they never miss out! / En el río Tárcoles, ellos nunca pierden al oportunidad!
Stork at Tárcoles. / Cigüeña en el Tárcoles.

It was great to see some of your work. VERY NICE! I especially like your images of the crocodile at the Tarcoles River and the the sloth on the power line.
Crocodile:
The low angle of the camera and the crocodile’s direction of travel toward the photographer implies danger. The eyes of the croc reveal a one mindednes and no hint of compassion. The river water gently swirling about his exposed head and snout as he passes through murky water hides the armor and teeth waiting below.
Sloth:
Perfect in B&W, adds to the sadness of the situation: struggling on a powerline, while attempting to survive a disappearing habitat. Composition, diagonal lines and the animal’s wind blown fur imply an unhappy ending.
