It just looked right! 17oo shoes standing on top of a bed of autumn leaves... When photographing people, little details of the situation or the person could be more interesting than the whole subject, because it leaves the rest to the imagination. / Simplemente se ve bien! zapatos de los años 1700 sobre una cama de hojas de otoño... Cuando uno fotografía gente, pequeños detalles pueden resultar más interesantes que todo el sujeto, ya que deja el resto a la imaginación.

I took a series of pictures (using continuous shooting) both times they fire the musket. Then, when I was editing, I found myself incapable of deciding which photo was best, of course, as I tried to do that I was changing from one frame to the other, real quick, using lightroom (have I mentioned that I am a Lightroom fan?). Then I realized that these pictures belong together in a rustic motion picture. Of course when I took them, I had no tripod, so all the photographs have a slightly different angle. / Tomé una serie de fotografías (utilizando modo ráfaga) ambas veces que dispararon el mosquetón. Por supuesto que a la hora de editar me resultaba imposible decidir cuál foto era mejor. Al moverme de un cuadro al otro utilizando lightroom (ya les mencioné que soy una fan de lightroom?) me di cuenta que deberían formar pare de una animación. Claro que cuando las tomé no tenía trípode, por eso todas las fotografías tienen un ángulo ligeramente diferente.

When photographing people it is very important that you keep a good mood, not only because it will be more enjoyable, but also because you could find yourself in an uncomfortable situation with someone, and that could ruin your day. If it is not a good day for you, then do not go out to photograph people! / Me parezco? Cuando se está fotografiando a gente es bueno mantenerse de buen humor, no sólo porque hará la experiencia más agradable, sino también porque uno puede encontrarse en una situación incómoda que le arruine el día. Si no es un buen día para uno, mejor no salir a fotografiar gente!

Diferencias culturales. Mientras estuve paseando con amigos, yo quería parar a cada rato para fotografiar los buzones, y muchos de ellos encontraron esto bastante aburrido: están tan acostumbrados a verlos que les parecía extraño que a mi me interesara. Si están fotografiando su propia cultura, no dejen pasar los detalles comunes, aunque para ustedes no parezcan interesantes, para otros lo serán. / Cultural differences. While I was traveling with friends I wanted to stop every so often to photograph mail boxes, and many of them found that very boring: they are so used to them that they found odd that I liked them. If you are photographing your own culture, do not leave behind common details, although they might not seam interesting to you, they could be interesting for others.

Pueden adivinar con qué lente tomé esta foto? Así es, el 28mm 1.8, mi nueva obsesión. Pero es una buena obsesión... siguiendo los ejemplos de Robert Capa, hay que acercarse lo más que se pueda, no con un tele, sino en persona! El efecto siempre es incomparable. / Could you guess what lens I used to take this photo? Yes, you are right, the fix 28mm, f1.8, my new obsession. But it is a good obsession... I try to fallow Robert Capa´s example: to get as close as you can, but not with a telephoto, in person! The feeling has no comparison.

The problem with getting close with your wide angle is that the background most be interesting, otherwise it will ruin your picture. So, when you want fill the frame with your subject and you need to get ride of the background, it will be best to get the telephoto. / La cosa con acercarse con un lente angular es que el fondo debe ser interesante, sino arruinará la foto. Entonces, cuando se quiere llenar el encuadre con el sujeto y es necesario deshacerse del fondo, el uso de un teleobjetivo para acercarse será la mejor idea.

The first thing I saw coming out of the subway in Boston was this lady. I tried to fallow her but lost her, then I found her again sitting in this bench. I immediately approach her and started talking to her, trying to get a good picture, but we were too many around her doing the same and, of course, she got scared and left. If you find a really good character on the street and you NEED that picture, take your time to talk to the person and get his/her trust, then you will get the picture you want. / La primera cosa interesante que vi saliendo del subway en Boston fue esta señora. Traté de seguirla un poco pero la perdí, más tarde la encontré sentada en esta banca. De inmediato me acerqué y comencé a conversar con ella, tratando de lograr una buena foto, pero eramos demasiados a su alrededor tratando de hacer lo mismo, entonces se asustó y se fue. Cuando uno encuentra un personaje muy bueno en la calle y NECESITA esa foto, hay que tomarse el tiempo de hablar con él/ella hasta ganar su confianza y lograr la foto.

A mi me encantan los cementerios porque creo que dicen mucho de una cultura. Sin embargo siempre me son difíciles de fotografiar, porque nunca siento que mis fotos dicen tanto como el lugar. Ahora, en este caso utilicé mi nueva tendencia de gran angular con poca profundidad de campo... se entiende pero no se ve todo... ¿qué opinan? / I love cemeteries because I think they say a lot about a culture. But I always find them hard to photograph, just because it feels to me that my pictures are not as expresive as the place I'm photographing. Now, in this case I used my new trend of wide angle with small depth of field... you can understand what's going on but you can not see it all... what do you thing?

One of the things I always say to people is "be ready... have your camera ready..." well, because I am a good teacher you could imagine that I do not always do that. We are getting off a very crowded Boston subway when I see this very old man stepping off the subway and everybody sort of opening a passage for him, I though it was a bit solemn, so I grab my camera and without even taking it to my face I took a couple of pictures. Of course my ISO and aperture were totally wrong and therefore my shutter speed was very slow, but I still like the picture. So, remember, do as I say and not as I do... always "be ready... have your camera ready..." / Una de las cosas que siempre le digo a la gente es "estén listos... tengan su cámara lista..." bueno, como soy tan buena profesora, podrán imaginar que no siempre hago lo que digo. Estábamos saliendo de un metro muy congestionado cuando vi a este viejito bajarse del metro y todo mundo a su alrededor abriendo un pasadizo para que él pudiera salir, me pareció muy solemne, entonces agarré mi cámara y sin siquiera mirar por el visor tomé una serie de fotos. Por supuesto que mi ISO y apertura eran completamente incorrectos y por lo tanto my velocidad de obturación resultó ser muy lenta, pero aún así me gusta esta foto. Entonces, recuerden, hagan lo que digo y no lo que hago... siempre "estén listos... tengan su cámara lsita..."

Ahora que tengo una cámara con live-view es un poco más sencillo tomar fotos de personas sin ser tan obvio (no siempre la técnica de la conversación es la correcta). Sin embargo, no siempre recuerdo que tengo esta opción. Con este muchacho gasté mucha batería tratando de lograr que la foto no estuviera torcida o que no le cortara un pie o la mano, todo a puro "tanteo", hasta que recordé que tenía la opción de live-view, y en un par de cuadros, siempre con al cámara en mis regazos, logré la foto que buscaba. Recuerden, más que tener una buena cámara, hay que saberla usar! / Now I have a camera with the live-view feature, so taking certain pictures of people, without been noticed, is a bit more simple (not always the conversation technique is the best). Of course I do not always rememmber that I have it. I spent a lot of battery trying to get a good picture of this guy guessing with my camera on my lap, but they always came crooked, or I would cut one leg or a hand. Then I remembered I had live-view, and within a couple of frames I had the picture I wanted. So remember, it is not about having the best camere there is, it is about knowing how to use it!
